Scientific activities on thighplasty

This operation is intended for patients who have an excess of skin and fat on the interior side of the thighs, often arising following major weight loss.

The examination of the area to be operated on allows the surgeon to determine the type of operation that is best suited for you.

There are two possibilities:

  1. If the quality of the skin is good, liposuction alone gives good results. The scars will be a few millimeters.
  2. If the skin is of lesser quality, the surgeon is obliged to perform a cutaneous resection in conjunction with liposuction. The scars will be long and situated in the inguinal fold and descend towards the inner side of the thighs.

Thighplasty is performed under general anesthesia. The duration of the operation is around 2 hours. The operating time will be longer if done in conjunction with liposuction.

On waking up, you will have a support girdle and will feel discomfort around the thighs. The support girdle must be worn for six months. The postoperative follow-up will be longer and rigorous hygiene is indispensable to avoid to the greatest extent possible the risks of infection.

The scar will start to improve from the second postoperative month. In the period between six months to one year following the operation it will whiten. It is possible that there will be a slight asymmetry, but it will not significantly impact the aesthetic result.

The surgeon may also propose an intervention in two stages in order to diminish the drawback posed by the scar: he would perform a simple liposuction initially to see if the cutaneous retraction is sufficient; he would then consider a second intervention to hone the aesthetic result. By intervening in this manner, the surgeon would spare you the long scars.
